MUNSU is inviting you to join with students across the country to demand accessible education! In 2021, the provincial government cut over $68 million from Memorial’s operating budget, and MUN administration increased tuition by over 200%. Since this, we have seen massive decreases in enrolment and increases in food insecurity on campus. After the recent Auditor General’s report condemned the misuse of government funds by university admin, we know that now it is more important than ever to demand free and accessible education from our leaders.
Last November, students across the province participated in a similar protest that, according to government officials, directly caused the government to return funding to Memorial and for the Campus Renewal Fee ($50 per course) to be completely eliminated for the 2023-24 year.
Direct action works - in 2023 alone, MUNSU also fought for and won a 10% tuition refund for Winter 2023 and successfully pressured admin to save the SWCC from losing their accreditation.
Join us at 11am on Wednesday, November 8 at MUN Clocktower. We will be marching with students from Marine Institute, College of the North Atlantic, graduate students, and in solidarity with thousands of students across Canada.
All professors have been encouraged by MUN Senate to waive any assessments and participation marks planned for November 8. If you have any issues with a prof with regards to these recommendations, please email advocacy@munsu.ca.
