The Students’ Union operates group health and dental plans for members to ensure that all students have access to the medical services they require.
Am I covered?
For coverage purposes, a “school year” is from September 1 to August 31 of the following year.
Full-Time Domestic Students
automatically enrolled in the plan
may opt out during your first full-time academic semester of the school year by completing the opt-out form.
Part-Time Students
may opt into the health and dental plan during your first academic semester of the school year by completing the opt-in form and paying the necessary fee.
Work-Term Students
while you are on a work term, you may opt into the health and dental plan for that semester by completing the opt-in form and paying the necessary fee.
if your work term is taking place outside of the province, please note that the plan covers up to 180 days of travel insurance.
International Students
automatically enrolled in the Internationalization Office’s Foreign Student Health (GuardMe) plan.
if you have a valid MCP card, you may opt out of GuardMe and into the MUNSU Greenshield plan in your first full-time academic semester of the school year. To do this, contact the Internationalization Office to opt out of their plan and you will automatically be registered for the Greenshield plan.
Couple/Family Coverage
students may opt their families into the plan by completing the opt-in form and paying the necessary fee.
Types of Coverage:
Couple Coverage covers 1 spouse/common law partner or 1 child
Family Coverage covers 1 spouse/common law partner and up to 3 children

OPTING OUT - Deadline September 18th
To opt out of the health and/or dental plans, please use the following steps:
Prepare your alternative extended insurance information, including the company name and policy number.
Click the opt-out link, to be directed to the Green Shield Opt-Out website.
Follow the prompts to input all relevant information. Please note that you are opting out of both health and dental, you should include both policies in the same form.
Retain your confirmation email and number for your records. If you do not receive a confirmation email, contact our Health and Dental Administrator for assistance.
OPTING IN
If you do not wish to submit a form online, you can complete a claims form and MUNSU will file the claim on your behalf. Claim forms are available in the MUNSU Office. Please note that it takes 2-3 weeks for claims to be processed.
Students may fill out a form online and send an etransfer to hdplan@munsu.ca, or visit the office in person to complete a form and pay using a debit or credit card.

If you are enrolled in the MUNSU insurance plan as an undergraduate student, your insurance provider is GreenShield Canada.
Your GreenShield ID number is MUN[your student number]-00. For example, if your number was 123456789, your insurance plan number would be MUN123456789-00.

After your opt-in form is processed, MUNSU will reach out to you with payment details.

If you are a domestic full-time student, you must opt out in your first full-time academic semester of the school year.
If you are on a co-op work term semester, please note that you are not eligble to opt out as you are not being charge fees during that semester. That opt-out will be invalid.
If you have already completed a valid opt-out, you do not need to do so again until the next school year. Please keep your confirmation email as proof of opt-out.

No, as a part-time student you would have to opt in at the beginning of the Winter semester.

No, if you paid for coverage in the first two semesters of the year, your coverage lasts until August 31.
