Student Town Hall Meeting

Hold Government and University Admin Accountable!

The MUN Students' Union has invited government leaders and university administrators to a student town hall taking place on Wednesday, April 26th at 7 pm at the Breezeway Cafe and Bar.

The town hall will be hybrid with the opportunity to attend in person or virtually via a Zoom link and a live stream on MUNSU's social media channels. The town hall is not exclusive to students - faculty, parents, and community members are encouraged to join and submit their own questions. In the event that we reach capacity, students will be prioritized for in-person attendance.

Confirmed Attendees:

  1. Memorial President Dr. Neil Bose

  2. Memorial Provost Dr. Jennifer Lokash

  3. Opposition Leader David Brazil (PC MHA)

  4. Education Critic Barry Petten (PC MHA)

  5. Third Party Leader Jim Dinn (NDP MHA)

  6. at least one Liberal Minister (confirmed by the Premier)

Unconfirmed:

  1. Premier Andrew Furey (Liberal MHA)

  2. Education Minister John Haggie (Liberal MHA)

  3. Finance Minister Siobhan Coady (Liberal MHA)

  4. Immigration Minister Gerry Byrne (Liberal MHA)

We encourage questions about the growing inaccessibility of post-secondary education, the barriers found within our provincial immigration system, the tuition hikes and their subsequent consequences, and how these things impact you specifically based on your individual experience.

Questions highlighting the experience of international students, racialized students, Indigenous students, Black students, queer and trans students, students with disabilities, and students otherwise structurally failed by our governing institutions will be prioritized.
