MEDIA RELEASE: Day of Action 2024
Students rally for increased funding to Memorial University, accessible education for third year in a row
On Wednesday, October 2 at 11AM, students will gather at the MUN Clocktower for a rally and march to the Confederation Building to demand a reversal of the 46.5% funding cut to Memorial by the provincial government since 2013. This comes a week after the Fund MUN campaign launch, where all on-campus student and labour unions at Memorial launched a campaign calling on the government for more funding to the university.
Students also are demanding:
a reversal of the 2022 tuition hikes, reducing tuition for all students down to the 2021 domestic level
increased funding to fix crumbling infrastructure
paid work placements for social work, nursing, pharmacy, and education students
elimination of the differential fee structure where international students pay triple what domestic students pay
We will be available for interview during and after the rally.
