Obstetrics and Gynecology Interest Group (OGIG)

last ratified: Fall 2023

The Obstetrics and Gynecology Interest Group (OGIG) at Memorial University provides extracurricular learning opportunities for undergraduate medical students to acquire skills and knowledge related to pelvic, sexual, and reproductive health.

This interest group allows students to get hands on experience, and advice with the OBGYN specialty, it forms lasting bonds between folks of like interests, and helps networks folks for future references and connections in finding a career and residency match.

Additionally OGIG works in tandem with choices for youth to provide food and child care in their Momma Moments program where we learn from young mothers experiencing barriers to financial security, food security, safe health care and other adverse events. This opportunity allows medical students to learn from the populations which we will be serving and to gain perspectives of folks from a variety of diverse backgrounds. Through this program students also get the chance to shadow a family doctor who specializes in obstetrical and gynecological practices to learn more about the field and skills used as an OBGYN practicing physicians.

Finally, students get to learn about different patient groups, subspecialties within the field of OBGYN, lifestyle, and hands on skills we are not taught in curriculum from multiple talks and skills nights throughout the year.
