WHO WE ARE
The MUN Students’ Union (MUNSU) unites all 13,000+ undergraduate students at Memorial University, St. John’s Campus. We are a membership-driven organization that is here to represent you, offer services to meet your needs, advocate for positive change at the local, provincial and federal level and to build community at Memorial.
MUNSU operates cost-saving services for students, including The Breezeway Bar, The Attic and your health & dental plan. We organize diverse events to promote a rich student life like Welcome Week, Pride on Campus and support the activities of our 200+ clubs and societies. Through our campaigns and seven resource centres, we also provide spaces and support for traditionally marginalized or underrepresented communities on campus.
We are members of the Canadian Federation of Students
With the Canadian Federation of Students, MUNSU represents our members to the University administration and to all levels of government. The Canadian Federation of Students was formed in 1981 by students who recognised that to be truly effective in representing their collective interests to the federal and provincial governments, it was vital to unite together.
Today, the Federation is composed of over one-half million students from more than 80 university and college students’ unions across Canada – including every student in Newfoundland and Labrador. The MUN Students’ Union, Local 35 of the Canadian Federation of Students, is proud to be a founding member of the Federation.
As a member of the Canadian Federation of Students in Newfoundland and Labrador, you are united with more than 27,000 students, from all our public post-secondary institutions. Together, we join the national fight for universally accessible and high-quality post-secondary education for all students.
It is this struggle that continues in our province as we deal with the effects of successive government cuts to our only public post-secondary institutions. The province needs students, and students need this government to Fund Our Future! United we will work with you in building a collective voice to bring students’ issues to the forefront of the political agenda and make students thrive in Newfoundland and Labrador.
Our Federation recognizes that students face multuple barriers on a daily basis. By supporting initiatives on campuses and providing educational resources on a variety of campaigns and issues we are helping to dismantle these barriers. Campaigns are driven by the active participation and mobilization of students to raise awareness and take action. For more information about our campaigns please visit www.cfs-fcee.ca.
